Sol on Park - New York
Sol on Park is a multifamily high-rise building in New York. This 16 story building has mixed use spaces on the first 2 floors, and apartments on floors 3-15. With aggressive efficiency and sustainability goals, the project wanted to create an energy model, test various envelope and system elements, and attempt to achieve high-performance status.
In addition, the team wanted to conduct a research study on the effects of energy recovery ventilators on indoor air quality, and compare the energy consumption and comfort results against a traditional exhaust only system with trickle vents for makeup air.
A detailed research paper was produced demonstrating that ERV’s produced much higher indoor air quality and saved energy in all configurations, while delivering a myriad of other benefits to the occupants and ownership. The building was able to achieve an energy density score of 20 EUI compared to the industry standard of 80 EUI, and continues to serve as an example of high performance and sustainability.
